The second single from Cisco Caesar's upcoming debut LP, Rooster & Lyrebird is a cautionary fable about lust, power, deceit and why hooking up with someone you met at the county fair might not be such a great idea.

The soul-infused lyrics are woven over a melody from the deep south – a rolling N'Orleans drumbeat, a funky walking bassline and rhythm that would be at home in the Caribbean. Add to that some tasty Albert King-like blues guitar licks and you've got yourself a mover and shaker.

Lyrics

Mickey was a Rooster
Gypsy was a Lyrebird
Songs like you've never heard
But only spoken lies

She ran into this viper
She met him at the county fair
He looked like Samson's heir
And so he won first prize

The Rooster and Lyrebird
Were meant to be
She thought she could tame him
But now her song don't sound so sweet
The season's short for deceit

They live in Oklahoma
She cooks and hooks for Mickey now
He's got a whole henhouse
Oh with room to spare

You could have a body
You could have a magic song
But when a Rooster's strong
Oh shit, you'd best beware

The Rooster and Lyrebird
Were meant to be
She thought she could tame him
But now her song don't sound so sweet
The season's short for deceit

They flew off to Bermuda
And Gypsy stole his Firebird
And no-one's ever heard
From that liar bird again

She had a body
She had a magic song
And when a Lyrebird's strong
Oh shit, you'd best beware

The Rooster and Lyrebird
Were meant to be
She thought she could tame him
But now her song don't sound so sweet
The season's short for deceit

Well Mickey was a Rooster
Gypsy was a Lyrebird
Songs like you've never heard
But only spoken lies
Songs like you've never heard
But only spoken lies
Songs like you've never heard
But only spoken lies
